JAKARTA — Celebrating the spirit of unity, education, and Islamic brotherhood, the World Muslim Scout Jamboree (WMSJ) 2025 opened with a strong message: scouting is not only about building character, but also about nurturing economic creativity and cultural exchange.
As part of Gontor’s 100th anniversary, the jamboree brings together thousands of Muslim youths from 16 countries, underscoring the role of scouting in shaping future leaders who are faithful, disciplined, and socially responsible. Alongside the camp, the WMSJ Expo was officially launched at the Cibubur Scout Camp in East Jakarta, offering a marketplace for small businesses and consumer goods.
The expo, which opened on Sunday (September 7), features a wide variety of food, clothing, and daily necessities. Exhibitors include local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as well as well-known national and international brands.
Zuhair Hussein Ghunaim, Secretary General of the World Islamic Union for Scout and Youth (WIUSY), praised the initiative during the opening ceremony. “This jamboree is the best I have ever seen. I am deeply proud of Gontor and Indonesia,” he said, highlighting that the event benefits not only the scouting community but also global SME development.

Expo chairman Yuga Simatupang explained that hundreds of booths have been set up through partnerships with businesses of all sizes. “We want this to be a meaningful experience — both for jamboree participants and the wider public. The tenants here meet daily needs while also giving entrepreneurs a stage to promote their products,” Yuga said.
He emphasized that the expo carries special significance as part of the centennial celebration of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor, which coincides with this year’s jamboree. “With more than 15,000 scouts and leaders in attendance, plus thousands of volunteers, the expo offers a huge opportunity to introduce products to both national and international audiences,” he added.
Major names have already signed on, from Periplus Bookstore, Alfamart, and Almaz to publishers like Renebook, as well as local food businesses such as Binafsihi Maṭ‘am.
The expo is open not only to jamboree participants but also to the surrounding community. Organizers hope it will serve as a hub for shopping, interaction, and recreation throughout the event.
“With visitors coming from 16 countries, this expo is more than just a marketplace. It is a showcase of Indonesian SME potential and a platform for cultural exchange, reinforcing the jamboree’s theme: ‘We Are Muslim, Civilized, United, and Peaceful,’” Yuga said.
