Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor (PMDG) Campus 12 officially launched its Second Semester Language Activities on Friday, 22 Rabiul Awal 1448 H (4/9/26). The opening ceremony, held with enthusiasm and solemnity at the campus complex in Lubuk Jering Village, Sungai Mandau District, Siak Regency, Riau, marks a vital milestone in enforcing language discipline across the institution.
The strategic event was attended by the Deputy Head of PMDG Campus 12, Al-Ustadz H. Himmah Azhar Latif, S.Th.I., the Deputy Director of the KMI (Kulliyatu-l-Mu’allimin Al-Islamiyyah), Al-Ustadz Rifqi Inani, M.Pd., along with the entire faculty of teachers (asatidz) and students (santri).
The periodic opening of language activities serves as a momentum for tajdid al-hamasah (renewing enthusiasm) and upholding the core rules and traditions (sunnah) of the Islamic boarding school. In addition to signaling the commencement of intensive language programs, such as vocabulary enrichment (mufradat) and daily conversation practice (muhadatsah), the event aligns the vision of the entire campus community to ensure a cohesive and consistent language environment.
Al-Lughatu Tajul Ma’had
At PMDG, Arabic and English hold a premier status as the “Crown of the Institute” (Al-Lughatu Tajul Ma’had). Foreign languages are key tools for understanding classical Islamic teachings and modern sciences. They also foster a 24-hour bi’ah lughawiyyah and cultivate globally competitive, courageous, and disciplined mundzirul qoum.
In his official address, the Deputy Head of PMDG Campus 12, Al-Ustadz H. Himmah Azhar Latif, S.Th.I., emphasized the necessity of purifying one’s intention (tajdidun niyyah). He reminded students that mastering Arabic and English is an act of worship and a means of character building, rather than a mere academic pursuit for grades. He urged the students to guard the honor of this “crown” by actively communicating without the fear of making mistakes (al-khata’u bidayatush shawab).
Furthermore, he highlighted that effective language enforcement relies heavily on exemplary leadership (al-uswah al-hasanah) from senior students and administrators. Grounded in lisanul hal afsah min lisanil maqal, PMDG Campus 12 emphasizes action over words. All elements are expected to work together, preparing a generation to convey Islamic values globally.
